When did Jewish Families begin moving to Skokie?

Before the Great Depression, Skokie experienced a short-lived real estate boom. In anticipation of this possible population growth, Skokie completed many water, sewer and paving projects, and expanded its boundaries through annexation.  After World War II, Skokie rebounded from the Great Depression and a new real estate boom began.

The development of new single family homes and apartments in the late 1940s and 1950s, brought many new residents to Skokie, many of whom were Jewish families. Between 1945 and 1955 an estimated 3,000 Jewish families came to Niles Township. By the mid-1950s approximately half of those moving to Skokie were Jewish.
